FEATHER & LACE SHAWL
Errata for First Printing
(Corrected in 9/1/07 reprint)
Chart C incorrectly shows some directional decreases. When I knitted and designed this shawl, I did not use any directional decreases. All my decrease stitches were knit 2 together or knit 3 together.
Chart E – Edging: There should be 5 yarnovers (instead of 4) on each side of the decrease stitches in the repeat section.
MADEIRA WAVE STOLE:
Yarn Substitution - This shawl was designed and knitted with Henry’s Attic Prime Alpaca 3-ply sport weight yarn (100% alpaca). Alpaca yarn does not have the elasticity of wool and knits up much looser.
While preparing for Stitches West 2007, we tried substituting sport weight wool and learned that the stitches were narrower and taller, which would change the proportions of the shawl. If you choose to knit this pattern with sport weight wool, it will probably be necessary to modify the pattern to make the shawl the right size.
We were able to obtain the same gauge with fingering weight wool, which produced a lighter feel and look.
Type of Decrease Stitch – When I knitted this shawl, I used a knit 2 together stitch for the decreases on the right-side rows of the vertical portion of the motif. I believe that any decrease stitch may be used in that portion of the pattern. However, it is very important to use right and left-leaning decrease stitches as indicated on the chevron portion of the pattern because the decrease stitch will outline the slanted lines. The pattern indicates that ssk should be used for the left-leaning decrease, however, any decrease stitch which will produce the desired effect may be used.
The gauge should be 30 stitches = 7 inches, NOT 20 stitches. We apologize for this mistake and regret any problems you may have experienced with the pattern because of it.
