Terilyn grew out of a love of needlecraft and fiber art shared by myself and my sisters, and is a combination of my name, Lynn Curry, and my sister Terry Rowe. Creating beautiful and useful items by hand has always been an important part of our lives.
I learned to crochet when I was barely old enough to read the directions, and also learned embroidery at a very young age. My grandmother taught me how to knit. Growing up, I spent much of my time time on needlework, and enjoyed crocheting lace doilies. In highschool I created lace shawls by modifying doily patterns.
Several years ago I learned to knit lace, and quickly created knitted lace shawls for Christmas gifts. I became fascinated by knitted lace patterns and spent time reading about and knitting lace, especially the beautiful Shetland lace patterns. I am an active member of the Lacy Knitters Guild and editor of the Guild’s newsletter since 2005.
The variety of stitch and lace patterns intrigues me, and I enjoy experimenting with stitches and motifs in my knitting.
Terry has also done various types of needlework since childhood, with an emphasis on crochet. She loves experimenting with different yarns, colors and textures in the items she creates.
When I began knitting lace, it was almost impossible to purchase lace yarn and appropriate needles in yarn shops. I began purchasing yarn and needles online for my projects, searching for high quality yarn with natural fibers at an economical price.
In 2006 I teamed up with some other knitters and sold patterns and yarn at Stitches West in Santa Clara, California. That was the formal beginning of Terilyn as a small business. I sell items which I like to use myself, and aim for quality products at a reasonable price.
